Boosting Blueberry Yields with Humic Acid

Boosting blueberry yields with humic acid

When we leased our facility, we unexpectedly inherited a 2.5-acre blueberry farm with six-year-old plants yielding an average of 22,000 pounds per year. With no prior farming experience, we reached out to local agronomists and started studying the plants ourselves, looking for ways to support the crop without disrupting an already productive system.

Learning the land before changing it

Blueberries are particular about soil conditions — they prefer acidic, well-drained soil with steady access to organic matter. Rather than guessing, we tested the existing soil profile and watched how the plants responded across a full growing season before introducing anything new. That patience gave us a clearer picture of where the plants were already thriving and where they could use support.

Bringing humic acid into the program

Given our background producing liquid humic and fulvic acid products, it was a natural next step to trial them on our own blueberry rows. Humic acid helps improve nutrient uptake and supports a healthier root environment, which mattered most in the older sections of the farm where the plants had been established the longest.

We applied our humic acid products alongside the farm's existing fertility program, monitoring plant vigor, fruit set, and overall canopy health through the season. The results reinforced what we'd seen in our other product trials: healthier root development and more consistent nutrient availability, season over season.

What this means for our customers

Running our own working farm has given us a practical testing ground for the same products we sell. It's one thing to talk about soil health in theory — it's another to manage a real crop through a full season and see how those inputs perform under everyday growing conditions. We're continuing to refine our approach on the blueberry rows, and we'll keep sharing what we learn as the seasons go on.
